Nascar
The ignition switch is pushed and the engine turns on
Jets kick in and the vibrations begin….
The lights flash green and the pedal weighs a ton
I take off amidst the smoke, and fumes once again. Kicking in the power shift to gear up around the track
Passing another car barely clear of his right is tight
Every attention is given and looking everywhere is a knack
For if you aren’t careful you will meet a certain plight. Suddenly, out of nowhere, something hits you and you spin
Uncontrollably you hit the wall and your car starts to stall
Blazing fire and smoke blows into the drivers den with no Amen
And in one second flat you are upside down and want to ball You struggle to unleash yourself to no avail
But the e team cuts you out just in time on one thin dime
Your victory jumpsuit is bloodied and looks like hell
But I’m breathin’ and livin’ and feelin’ just fine So, on to do my thing in just about a month or two
Car #7 will be ready to go the distance next Nascar race
And, maybe… if I’m really lucky and will get my due
I’ll be back blowing off doors and celebrating first place. -Mark DeMent
