Family: Bring Them Home
By Mark Dement
In the last fifty years, a massive shift in population has occured throughout the United States. Seldom anymore do many people talk about it though the shift has done more to shake up the family unit than anything else. After college or graduate school kids decide to find a good paying job. If they are lucky, they can find one in their own city but that usually is not the norm. So they must look outside their immediate area to find the plum job. The more rural the community is the greater chance that the family member must move away to get a good job. Unless your family member goes into their own business or has a profession they just don't have any choice. The higher the wage sought and the higher the specialty of the job the greater the chance of a move probably to another state. "Head hunters' who have a lock on the highest p[aying jobs in America seldom look at "where" the job is located. Their attitude is mainly to fill the job no matter where the job is. But, even though the new job is a good one out of state it is always at the expense of the family unit. An almost immediate loss occurs and most times the move becomes permanent. It just isn't right. We all have accepted it as being something that we just had to accept. But...we all need to turn it around and....bring them home. If we don't make the effort of reuniting the family then who will? The alienation gets worse as time goes on. When grandkids arrive on the scene then it becomes 20 times worse because you love them more than anything but can not see them due to distance. With internet businesses proliferating on the internet perhaps those "lost" sons and daughters of America can come home to live and work. So, now is the time. Make the plan and work on them until they come home. It may mean sharing your house for a time. It may mean paying for their move. These may be the sacrifices people need to make to bring their family home. Can anyone argue that the family would be stronger if we bring our family memebers home? In these days and times it may become a necessity rather than an option. The strength we have as a people comes from the will inside all of us. What makes us a better people and a stronger nation comes from the foundational unit of each family. Do it for you. Do it for your family. Do it to build a stronger nation. Bring them home.
